Description
Newberry College invites applications for Adjunct Faculty positions in the Department of Nursing to teach in the BSN and/or RN-BSN program(s). Adjunct faculty will provide high-quality instruction in didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical settings in accordance with the College’s mission and the standards of the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for student-centered teaching, a commitment to academic excellence, and an understanding of professional nursing practice that supports the development of compassionate, competent, and ethical nurse leaders. Appointments are per course, with no guarantee of teaching load or course assignments each term. Position has great potential to grow with a nursing department that anticipates expansion with the community and profession.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Teach assigned courses in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings, aligning instruction with course outcomes and program objectives.
Translate nursing theory into applied learning with specialty focus and industry-relevant student and faculty mentorship.
Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Incorporate evidence-based, active learning and simulation strategies that enhance clinical judgment and critical thinking (including Next Gen NCLEX-aligned content).
Maintain accurate course records and ensure compliance with all institutional and state board documentation requirements.
Collaborate with full-time faculty to ensure curriculum consistency and integrity.
Participate in faculty orientation, professional development, and relevant departmental meetings.
Model professionalism, cultural competence, and commitment to lifelong learning.
Any other tasks as assigned by the Associate Dean of Nursing.
Requirements
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution with a terminal degree (DNP or PhD in Nursing) from a CCNE accredited institution preferred. Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina (or eligibility for licensure). Minimum of two years of recent clinical experience in a professional nursing setting. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness or clinical preceptorship experience. Proficiency in using online learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, or Brightspace or other proprietary system). Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Specialty certification or advanced clinical expertise in one or more of the following areas: Women’s Health, Urology, Public Health / Community Health, Mental Health, or Medical-Surgical Nursing. Certification as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) or eligibility for certification.
Experience with CCNE accreditation or similar nursing program accreditation standards.
Familiarity with Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) principles and competency-based curriculum design.
Experience teaching diverse student populations and integrating inclusive teaching practices.
Record of professional scholarship, leadership, and/or service in nursing.
