The Department of Nursing is one of four professional programs and is a part of the College of Science and Mathematics.
Company History
Lander University was founded as a college for women by Methodist clergyman Samuel Lander in 1872 as Williamston Female College in Williamston, South Carolina. It remained private for 26 years. In 1898, the college gained the support of the South Carolina Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In 1904, the college relocated to Greenwood, SC and was renamed Lander College to honor its founder. Men were admitted in 1943 and the institution is now completely coeducational. In 1951, the county of Greenwood obtained the College from the Methodist Conference. On July 1, 1973, Lander College became a state-assisted college and on July 1, 1992, by action of the Board of Trustees, the institution became Lander University.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
Lander University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaurete and masters degrees. Lander University has offered a nursing program for over 50 years and is proud of the accomplishments of the Department of Nursing which include the first Associate Degree Nursing program in South Carolina and the first online RN-BSN completion option in South Carolina. The baccalaureate program, accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, (202) 887-6791, has maintained an average NCLEX pass rate of over 90% for the past decade.
